4 Tips For Successfully Delegating Tasks

Did you know that many of the most successful people in life are great at delegating? By focusing on their strengths and delegating the tasks that slow their productivity to others they are able to create great successes for their business.

As a leader, it’s necessary to trust and have faith in abilities of others to get things done. But for people who are used to being in charge, this can be a difficult transition. In an Entrepeneur.com article, Jacqueline Whitmore reveals these tips:

Clearly define the task your delegating

Before delegating a new responsibility to someone, be sure to collect all necessary information they might need to complete it, including expectations and deadlines. Don’t forget to offer support and schedule regular check-in meetings for an opportunity to check progress and give constructive feedback.

Match the task to the right individual or team

Often times tasks fail either because they person assigned wasn’t right for the task or because they couldn’t handle it in addition to their other responsibilities. It’s important to be thoughtful when delegating and everything from skills, experience, and personality should be considered. Although it might be difficult, this is a great opportunity to allow employees the opportunity to acquire new skills.

Support and communicate

Your job as a leader is to help your employees grow as professionals in their field by challenging and motivating them while also providing advice and feedback. It’s necessary for them to know they are part of a team and vital to your company’s success. Also, keep in mind that open communication is the key to success. Keep tabs on goings on, but don’t micromanage.

Trust your instincts

If done correctly and thoughtfully, delegating tasks emphasizes your leadership skills and helps boost overall productivity. Save yourself the frustration and rely on your instincts. Give the right job to the right person so you will have time to focus on growing your business.
