5 Mistakes to Avoid When Making a Sales Pitch

A good sales pitch is important whether you’re selling a product, service or idea. In fact, anyone who has ever been a salesperson at any point in their life knows that even the smallest mistake can prevent you from closing a sale. Many things can go wrong before, during and after a pitch, so it’s important to be aware of what not to do.

Sales coach Stephanie Chung writes at Inc.com about here when making a sales pitch. Being aware of these will not only set you apart from the competition but also boost your sales.

Being unprepared.

Plan and do your research.  Making sure you prepare for any questions or reservations your clients might have will help you stay ahead of the game.

Beating around the bush.

Your client’s time is precious, and so is yours. Minimize the small talk and get to the point sooner rather than later.

Talking versus listening.

We know that giving your pitch is part of the sale, but don’t forget to listen to what your customer has to say. Make sure you’re clear on what they need and want and carefully explain how you’re going to help them.

Thinking like a seller.

Try taking the perspective of your client — anticipate any needs or questions that may arise.

Waiting too long to follow-up.

Following up is arguably one of the most important parts of selling. Putting it off until it’s too can be detrimental to your success, so be sure not to wait longer than week to follow-up, so you’re fresh in your prospect’s mind.

Have you made any of these mistakes? Is there one that’s more important than another? Avoiding these mistakes can help you close that important deal and you’ll be perceived as being on top of your game. Read more details here.
