Apple Watch Can Help Busy Restaurants

Here’s an innovative use of the Apple Watch in business. It’s being used by restaurants to manage their reservations and waitlist system. Husain Sumra at MacRumors.com in “Manhattan’s Union Square Cafe Will Outfit Managers with Apple Watches to Improve Hospitality” reports how one eatery is going to use technology to make their customers happy. Their managers will use the app ResyOS on Apple’s wearable technology. Then, the restaurant staff will be able to manage seating, reservations, customer arrivals and waitlist throughout the restaurant. Customers will enter data like birthdays and preferences through Resy’s CRM system.

Apple Watch and Union CafeFloor managers and sommeliers wearing the watches will receive notifications when VIPs enter the restaurant, when new tables are seated, when guests have waited too long to order, when menu items run out and more. The Apple Watch’s function will be focused on cutting out steps and increasing response time. For instance, when a guest is finished dining a manager will get a notification, allowing them to ping a server for the check or the guest’s coat.

Technology can certainly level the playing field for small businesses. I can see other industries using a similar application like medical and legal practices,  beauty salons, spas etc.  Business owners just have to keep their eyes open to new and different solutions.

After reading this article, I no longer will see my Apple Watch as just a health and fitness tool. Spreadsheets move over, there’s a new kid on the block.
