The one example of Terry’s examples that was especially meaningful to me is “Thanks for showing up here today, we normally don’t see executives.” When I look back on my days as a new professional, I remember instances when I would give many hours to a project or an event, and then no one from top management would show up. Not that I needed them there, but their presence would have recognized the importance of my efforts. After this happened to me a couple of times, I made a promise to clearly show encouragement to my team. I did, and they noted. Mission accomplished.
