Executives Reveal the Secrets to Great First Impressions

Good first impressions are necessary, especially in the business world. Yet, we’ve all encountered that nervous feeling when meeting someone new – we want to appear nice and friendly as well as smart and adequate. Unfortunately, people are quick to judge. Someone can easily pass judgement on you within the first few minutes of meeting, so it’s crucial to make good use of that time.

Because we want others to view us as competent professionals, it’s important to do our best to create that feeling upon first meeting someone. No one knows the value of a first impression better than business men and women. In an article titled “12 Tips on How to Make a Great First Impression, According to Executives,” Christina DesMarias shares advice from the executives of several successful companies.

How to Make Good First Impressions

Make a connection, not impression.

Be confident, upfront and informed.

Just be yourself.

Foster a warm countenance.

Outperform preconceptions.

Don’t be self-absorbed.

Smile.

Be yourself and blunt when you need to.

Do whatever you need to do to be confident.

Genuinely try to identify with people

Don’t try to be who you think others want you to be.

Find common ground.
