Ice breakers are a fun way to help meet new people at networking events. The goal of networking meetings is to meet new people. Right? Then why do naturally gravitate towards people we already know? Maybe the answer lies in comfort zone – we’re comfortable with people we already know. A good ice breaker activity will give participants a structured format to get out of their comfort zone.

Did you like any of Kevin’s ideas? One of my favorites is the “Empty Your Pockets.” I have used a variation of this activity with groups before. There is a lot of laughter and interesting conversations. You’d be surprised what people carry in their pockets or purses. Often the reason why they take the object with them is just as interesting as the object itself.

Next time you’re in charge of planning a socializing event for your employer, association or club try one of Kevin’s ideas. You can always modify an activity to conform to your group’s personality or preferences.
