The future of work will take place in organizations that will be more agile, global and transparent. The worker will still be valuable, but their work will be organized and performed using different methods.

John Boudreau at HBR.org in “Work in the Future Will Fall into These 4 Categories” explores the forces driving change in organizations and describes the characteristics of the future work world.

Work and workers (yes, humans) will always be essential to organizations, but organizations themselves will be more diverse, and work will be organized, structured, and done in new ways, increasingly through arrangements outside of regular full-time employment. The article gives leaders trends to plan and embrace. The quadrant defining the four workplace buckets is informative. Mr. Boudreau states that there will be traditional jobs remaining in the future—9 to 5 and hierarchical organizations due to the nature of the business or work. But, some companies will need to re-structure themselves outside of the traditional model to remain competitive in a global economy.
