Today is the Fourth of July. Although we’re a young country in comparison to other nations, our contributions have been significant to mankind. Oh, we’re not perfect, but we are a generous nation and a hardworking people.

As I was thinking of what to write about on the occasion of my country’s 238th birthday, I came across the following quote.  Yes, we don’t celebrate our Independence Day with grand parades to show our military strength. Instead, we would rather see our children decorate their bicycles and pets in the grand colors of red, white and blue. After the parade, we like to wander over to picnic tables and enjoy a summer feast with family, friends and neighbors. And, we cap the day with patriotic music and glorious fireworks.

Whether your Fourth of July, is active or quiet, I hope that at the end of today’s festivities, you return to this quote and remember that you were a patriot today. Happy 4th of July! God bless America!

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck
