How small businesses can compete for good workers?

According to U.S. Small Business Administration, in 2011 5.7 million small businesses employed 54.9 million workers. This represents about 48.5 percent of private-sector employment and 42 percent of private-sector payroll. These numbers tell us how important small businesses are to job creation and retention.

Key to any small business is finding good employees. This article, written by entrepreneur Julia Pimsleur, presents five suggestions on how a small business owner can compete with “the big boys” when searching for good employees. Her ideas clearly illustrates how a small business has the upper hand when it comes to making employees feel satisfied at work – and it’s not always about money. I have always said that small businesses are more flexible and capable of adapting or responding to situations much faster than corporations; and, Ms. Pimsleur proves my point in her article.

I’ll give you one example. As a small business owner you can move a lot quicker when hiring a new employee. Oh certainly you have hiring procedures in place to protect your firm, but decisions are reached a lot faster and with less red tape than at a larger corporation or government agency.

Take time to read the article and see how many of the suggestions you can put into place in your business.  Read complete article here.
